Laura Lee Garrett is a member of the firm's Real Estate Section. She represents investors, developers, landlords, tenants and lenders in a wide range of complex transactions. Her practice focuses on the development, financing, leasing and management of commercial projects, including retail, mixed-use, hospitality, medical campus, senior facilities, student housing, condominiums, and green buildings.

Having worked as in-house real estate counsel for two Fortune 500 retailers, Laura Lee has broad experience pertaining to the operations of large public companies. She has been an adjunct professor at William and Mary Law School, teaching real estate transactions.

Relevant Experience:

  • Served as Virginia counsel in one of the major bailout transactions by the U.S. Department of  the Treasury
  • Closed the acquisition and financing of two major student housing projects adjacent to a public university for a student housing investment fund
  • Drafted and negotiated medical office building leases for hospital systems and medical practice groups
  • Closed the acquisition, development and financing of numerous skilled nursing and assisted living facilities for senior housing developer
  • Prepared documentation for and closed two-phased, mixed use redevelopment project utilizing federal and state historic tax credits, enterprise zone grant funds and real estate tax abatement incentives
  • Represented the developer of grocery store anchored neighborhood shopping centers in development, leasing and financing of several shopping centers in Richmond, Hampton Roads and the Shenandoah Valley
